Talei Wilson will run at inside centre for the Rooster Chicken Fijiana side today as they play the New Zealand Maori Wahine side at the HFC Bank Stadium and she expects her New Zealand counterparts to come out firing.

Wilson, who plays for the ACT Brumbies in Canberra, Australia, said she had to learn a lot after joining the Fijiana camp on how to understand the different style of rugby played here on the islands than opposed to the style played in Australia.

“It is a very different environment and I love the experiences so far,” Wilson said.

“We play with structure back in Australia, and the Fijiana girls play a different type of rugby. I am learning a lot from these players in terms of building my skills and I am looking forward to showcasing what I had learnt when we take on the New Zealand Wahine side tomorrow.

They have a lot of well-versed and skillful players in their squad so it would certainly be an exciting match for everyone. Our aim going into this match is to master our individual roles well. When everything goes according to plan and you get in the groove, the results would certainly tell the story.”

Wilson, who has maternal links to Bucalevu, Natewa in Vanua Levu, shared how she lamented the training sessions at the Fiji Navy base at Togalevu and the infamous Sigatoka sand dunes, saying she had accomplished something she had always dreamt of.

“These two places were something the Fijiana Drua players spoke about a lot and to experience the feeling and atmosphere of training there is really amazing. I had always dreamt of training at the sand dunes and I am lucky to have trained there three times,” said Wilson jokingly.

“I thought it would get easier the more times you train there, but it was the total opposite.”
