Delainavesi Volleyball Association hopes to have players don the white jersey for the Pacific Games next year.
Association president Rusiate Baba said coming back from a two-year break because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was time for a change and players needed to showcase their talent.
“Our plan is to explore the talents that we have, mould them and groom them,” Baba said.
“The Pacific Games is coming up next year so we’re confident that our players will make it to the national team.
“We have been waiting for too long, two years of no sport and now that is opened, we will showcase our talented players.”
He said as an active association, they were grateful for the support given by the 10 clubs registered under the association.
“We’re going on to our sixth season now and our community ranges from Valenicina from Lami right up to Nadonumai, Suvavou, Vugalei and all those communities right up to Delainavesi.
“We’re grateful for the turnout to celebrate our constitution day, we also trying to promote wellness fight against non-communicable diseases and continue with our season.
“We’re glad that majority of the attendants are young people.
“Since there hasn’t been any locally-hosted tournament, we decided to run our own mini-tournaments.
“When COVID-19 came, everything halted, sports were restricted but when everything started to come back to normal, we hosted small tournaments.
“In terms of finance, it is from our pocket. Basically the contribution from our members and their clubs, the players giving their fee. We haven’t received any grant.”
