Laisani Moceisawana says being selected into the Fijiana 7s team for the Rugby World Cup 7s in Cape Town, South Africa next week is a dream come true for her.
The 24-year-old made her debut for the national team at the Oceania 7s tournament in Auckland, New Zealand in June.
The former Fiji secondary schools sprint queen said she only took up the sport actively last year.
“It takes a lot of time to prepare with hard work to actually be selected to go for the world cup,” Moceisawana said.
“But I’m really grateful for the opportunity to represent the nation. “I got a medal with the team at the Commonwealth Games for the first time.”
The women’s competition at the Rugby World Cup 7s will be played in a different format.
The qualified teams will first play in the round of 16 before qualifying for the quarter-finals. The Fijiana 7s ranked sixth will face 11th placed Japan.
Moceisawana said they were aiming for something bigger at the RWC 7s. “Everyone is fit and ready to take part in the RWC 7s,” she said.
“The matches will not be easy because all teams have prepared well.”
Part of the Fijiana 7s squad departed for South Africa on Friday while head coach Saiasi Fuli and players Vani Buleki and Vasiti Solikoviti left the country on Friday.
