Before I list headlines for The Fiji Times’ edition for Tuesday, August 30, let me start by reflecting on that final at the LA 7s.

What a heartbreaker that was when the national side succumbed to the New Zealand All Blacks 21-28 in the final!

As the saying goes, we cannot win every time and opposition teams are studying our games, and working out gameplans to beat us.

However, we did reach the final, and that is a plus as we head into the World Cup which is scheduled from September 9-11.

An emotional Australia head coach John Manenti said a few things that will stand out for rugby fans, when they won the men’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series for the first time in history.

“We are a bunch of misfits just having a crack, working hard for each other and the boys love each other which is a big thing. This season we wanted to be consistent from day one and we didn’t get there every tournament, but in general this overall victory is all about the consistency the boys have shown.”

As our team heads across to Cape Town, they will carry the hopes and aspirations of an expectant nation. We say thank you for the great effort to reach the final! Thank you for giving us hope!

We know it is only going to get tougher from here on. South Africa is going to be the big one this year.

This is where the best will converge, and the best will triumph in the end.

This is where we must prepare to play the game of our lives! We say go Fiji, go!
