Three Fijian judokas are ready to take centre stage at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in England.

Gerard Takayawa, Shanice Takayawa and Tevita Takayawa will represent Fiji at the Coventry Stadium Arena.

The trio will have some tough competition from the best in the world but are hopeful of positive outcomes.

Tevita, who participates in the under 100kg event, said he was looking forward to rubbing shoulders against the best in the sport.

“It’s not going to be easy at all but we are mentally prepared. We have done our hard yards in training and are ready for battle. Just want our fans to keep us in your prayers so we can perform to the best of our abilities,” Tevita said.

Gerard will be in action in the over 100kg category and shared similar sentiments.

“My focus is on the first match right now and I am hoping I can make it past the first round. I know it’s not going to be easy but I have enough faith in myself and I know I can get past the first round then I can think about anything else,” Gerard shared.

Shanice was first up in action last night against Katie Brown of England in the women’s 70kg quarter-finals.
