The George and Esther Thaggard Open Mixed Pairs 2022 bowling tournament got underway yesterday at the Suva Bowling Club.
The son of late Fijian bowling stalwarts — George and Esther — Peter Thaggard took part in yesterday’s opening round after flying into the country from the United States of America this week.
Peter said it was good to be back in the country.
“The early morning showers did not dampen the spirits of competitors, but it is good to be back in the country and to take part in this tournament in memory of my mum and dad,”he said.
“The weather in Suva is always the same and everyone is used to this kind of weather. It rained a bit in the morning, but the sun came out and it held up through most of the day.”
The tournament initially had 18 teams registered, but two teams pulled out in the last minute and Thaggard said the turnout was a good sign for bowling in the country.
“We had a pretty good turnout in the first day. It is good to see young bowlers in the mix. I urge interested individuals to join us next year and it is certainly a good game to take up.”
The tournament ends today. |
