The Nadi rugby team has suffered a major blow after two of its key players have been ruled out of the Skipper Cup final against Naitasiri at Prince Charles Park on Saturday.

Blindside flanker Jolame Luvevou and openside flanker Ilisoni Galala, both standout players for the Jack’s of Fiji-sponsored Nadi team were spotted at the Nadi International Airport on Monday boarding a flight.

The duo are believed to have travelled to Georgia seeking greener pastures in rugby.

Nadi Rugby Union officials did not wish to comment when contacted yesterday.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said players could travel overseas to negotiate for their contracts with their agents and overseas clubs.

O’Connor said once a contract was finalised, the overseas club and the country’s union where they would play would be required to seek their release from the FRU.

“The overseas club will need to send all the documentation to us,” he said. “But we will only give them their release if they are cleared by their club and union here.”

Nadi won both the matches against Naitasiri in the round robin home and away Skipper Cup competition earlier this year.

The Jetsetters defeated the Hillmen 32-31 in the first round and 14-12 in the second round.Tomorrow’s final is scheduled to kick off at 3pm.
