FijiCare Insurance Ltd celebrated its 30th anniversary on Wednesday night with two awards from the International Business Magazine 2022 Awards.

The awards were Best Heath Insurance Provider – Fiji and the Best Digital Insurance Initiative – Fiji.

Speaking during the celebration held at the Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) in Suva, FijiCare executive director Avi Raju said the hard work of staff and management had seen the company receive a number of local and global awards.

“We as a company have a dream of taking our company to the list of the best companies in the country, if not the region,” Mr Raju said.

“The dream of making into a company which is known for its products, services, caring for its customers and commitment towards innovation and excellence.”

He said it was through the “grits and the hard work” of staff, support from the board, customer support, “our brokers, our agents, our strategic partners, our service providers, our regulator the Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) and all stakeholders” that the company was now bigger and stronger than ever before.

Chairman Dumith Fernando said he felt a little uncomfortable when he was first approached and asked to take on the role of chairman of FijiCare as he had never visited Fiji before.

“One of the reasons when I asked to be on the board and take on the role of chairman, after a little of reflection I came to the conclusion that I have no hesitations,” Mr Fernando said.

“It is because I felt this company was going down the direction, the path that will embrace innovation that will not just change FijiCare but assist FijiCare in changing the way insurance work in Fiji and the South Pacific.”

Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said FijiCare had participated well with the Government, not only in the launching of various insurance products but most importantly during the COVID-19 period when they launched the careFIJI app.

“So this symbiotic relationship between the public and private sector is critically more important to ensure that society and develop, can grow, to be able to take advantage of the opportunities that exist,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Again, many of these opportunities existed for many other corporates, many other companies in Fiji, but unfortunately they are not doing so. Some of them have been long established but they are not doing do.

“And we would like to urge them to use FijiCare as a symbol, as a role model, to be able to roll out those types of initiatives within our economy, within our society.”

According to Mr Raju, the company held its annual general meeting earlier that morning and they “received an all-time high in revenue, profit and distribution of dividends for the year ending 2022.”
