Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama promised the people of Noemalu district that a road from Korovou Village to Tubarua Village would be built “soon”, during a talanoa session at the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting in Kalabu this week.
Mr Bainimarama said Government had invested more than $105.5 million into developing the rural regions of Naitasiri from 2014 until last year.
A Noemalu district representative said the district had been forgotten by previous administrations and they were happy with the promise of a new road.
He also asked the PM if Government could provide a mortuary and maternity unit for the district.
Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said a nurse from Nasauvere Village was in Narokorokoyawa Village as an interim measure and they had plans to provide a house for the nurse in Nasauvere or another village close to it.
“We have a nursing house in Nasoqo Village which should be considered a government nursing station,” he said.
“We have a plan to help expectant mothers deliver in a nursing station or health centre to ensure safe delivery of their babies.”
Dr Waqainabete said they were also holding discussions about a mortuary for the area. Noemalu is the last district along the Wainimala River.
It is located near the border of Namosi and Navosa and consists of the villages of Korovou, Narokorokoyawa, Matawailevu, Nasava, Nasauvere and Tubarua.
