The Police Blue rugby side won the 2022 Suva Rugby Union Digicel Escott Shield defeating Navy Blue 27-17 in the final at Albert Park yesterday.

It was a sweet revenge for the Police side which lost last years’ final to Navy Blue 24-17.

Police Blue led 21-10 at halftime with tries to right winger Lote Degei and a brace to hooker Sireli Narawa. Navy was awarded a penalty try and managed to kick a penalty in the first spell.

Navy Blue scored the only try of the second spell when the referee awarded them another penalty try as Police continuously dragged down rolling mauls defending scrums at their five metre line.

Police Blue fullback Sebastian Rabuku added two penalties to seal the win.

Winning coach Solo Lute said his players played according to the game plan.

“We knew they will be strong in the forwards so we tried to keep the ball out wide to the backs.

“I’m proud of the performance of my players and how they managed to contain the Navy side,” Lute said after the game.
