Professional boxing is back on in the country after a lapse of more than 18 months.

The South Pacific Boxing Promotions will host a program in Nadi next Saturday which will feature one title fight.

Junior Binnu Singh will battle Ritesh Goundar for the Fiji super flyweight title.

In the main 8×3 minute cruiserweight contest, Alivereti Kauyaca will take on Isikeli Senidoko.

Kauyaca, who hails from Bukuya in the Nausori Highlands, has an unbeaten record. He had fought six times, winning five and drawing one.

Senidoko on the other hand has two wins, two losses and a draw. South Pacific Boxing Promotions promoter Fredy Chand said they were reviving professional boxing after the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chand said all boxers on the program had been training for some time.

“We checked the boxers earlier this week and they are ready to roll,” he said.

“The main bout between Junior Binnu and Ritesh will be in the 52 kilogram weight category. There will be one women’s contest.

“There is limited seating for the program and it will be held at the American International School hall which has a capacity of 800. Menus Catering of Lautoka and Shams Halal Meat from Vancouver, Canada have sponsored the program.”
