The World Boxing Council will contact their heavyweight champion Tyson Fury this week to clarify his plans for the future.
Fury has reiterated his intention to retire after his recent sixth round knockout of fellow Brit Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium left the giant 33-year-old unbeaten.
“The WBC will be communicating with Tyson Fury and his promoters about his future plans in the coming week,” WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told Sky Sports in the UK.
“We are ready to support him on whatever he decides. If he decides to retire the WBC will fully support him.
“It is our dream to see fighters retire with such greatness. Undefeated champion, financially protected with a loving family and a great future outside the ring .
“I am very happy and satisfied if this is his final decision and will fully support him and will be close to him for the rest of his life.”
Sulaiman has previously stated he believed Fury would return to the ring later this year with a heavyweight unification fight the carrot.
Fury has instead been linked to combat sports outside of boxing, with a possible return to the WWE wrestling extravaganza or a hybrid fight against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
UFC boss Dana White has labelled that fight as “stupid” and no certainty to happen.
“That fight’s definitely not a lock,” White told The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday (NZT).
“Listen, they’ve been talking about it. Fury is the best boxer, one of the greatest boxers of all time. You look at the guys that he’s beaten and how easily he’s beating them. I don’t know. We’ll see how this thing plays out. I don’t love the crossover fights. I don’t love them.”
White helped stage the 2017 crossover fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
Mayweather won via a 10th-round TKO and the bout sold 4.3 million pay-per-view, but White doesn’t seem interested in going down that route again with Fury v Ngannou.
“Because they’re stupid … a waste of time, energy, and money. I don’t know, it’s silly, but I get it.
“Boxing is a massive advantage for Tyson Fury. If you know anything about fighting, it’s a silly conversation.”
