The Fiji National University’s plan to build a new campus in Labasa has been put on hold as it shifts its focus to refurbish a vocational centre which it intends to reopen as its new northern campus.

FNU vice-chancellor Toby Wilkinson said the site originally earmarked for a new campus – located in a key development corridor adjacent to the Labasa river – would be developed to provide facilities for commercial, educational, and community use.

He said that move underlined FNU’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and serving its communities.

“After undertaking extensive consultations with our stakeholders, we believe that this new solution provides a responsible, cost-effective, and high-quality solution for the people of Vanua Levu,” Prof Wilkinson said.
