The Rewa River banks had been rapidly deteriorating, says SODELPA MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau.
During the debate on 2021-2022 Appropriation Bill 2022 in Parliament last week, he said the rapid erosion of the river bank was not only from rise in sea level, but also from the operation of those extracting sand from the river.
“If you go to Toga, Muana Village, the Chinese operation there, the riverbank has eroded by about maybe 50m in the last five to ten years,” Ro Filipe said.
“That has claimed farm lands et cetera and I am urging that that be looked at in terms of budget preparation.”
