Fiji Swimming’s preparation for upcoming international events is on track with swimmers improving their personal and seasonal best times during the recent Long Course Mini Meet competition.
Taichi Vakasama and Hansel McCaig broke two national records during the LCMM round three competition at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva last weekend.
Fiji Swimming president Ben Rova expressed delight at the duo’s performance.
He said it was very similar to the gold medal times at the Pacific Games which augured well for their preparations.
“This has been achieved despite the operation hindrances that we have been facing,” Rova said.
“Apart from Taichi and Hansel, we have other swimmers in our Commonwealth Games training squad who have started hitting the required bronze medal times which has been set for Fiji Swimming.
“We had a lot of the swimmers dropping their personal best times and seasonal best times.
“So overall the preparations are going really well.”
The Fiji National Championships in Suva next month will allow more swimmers to achieve better times before the selection of the national team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham, England from July 28-August 8.
