Trinity Adiwaqa Adams is relishing the experience of being part of women’s rugby in the country.
Adams is a model and is from Nadi.
She was inspired by the Fijiana 7s team’s success in the Tokyo Olympics.
“It is my first time playing the sport,” she said.
“I have been involved in other sports such as netball, basketball, volleyball, swimming and lawn tennis.
“I watched the Olympics where the Fijiana 7s team was playing and immediately after the girls’ bronze medal win, I decided to play rugby. I was inspired by the Fijiana 7s team’s achievement.
“I was super excited. I decided to play the sport.
“I didn’t play rugby before and it has been a wonderful experience playing in a tournament of such a magnitude such as the Nawaka 7s.”
She is a Year 12 student of Swami Vivekananda College in Nadi.
“Rugby is a physical sport with lots of tackling, so we had to train twice as hard. The other sports I used to engage in before were not physical contact sports.
“I look forward to pursuing the sport with serious intent.
“My mother is my champion. She motivates me and she is the brains behind the formation of our team.”
Adams, who aspires to be a lawyer, aims to play for Fiji one day. She has a strong message for women who want to play rugby.
“If they want to play rugby, go for it. Keep chasing your dreams and never give up.”
Adams is part of the Tagimoucia women’s team which is playing in the 35th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
The three-day tournament ends today.
