The title of the men’s Geotech National Triples Championship winner was shared by the finalists after rain forced an abrupt end to competition at the Suva Bowling Club last weekend.

The title was shared among the teams of Samuela Tuikiligana, Arone Hae, Esaroma Taubale and Jare Josaia, Zainal Mohammed, Krishn Singh.

Suva Bowling Club manager Astral Smith, who is also the Team Fiji bowls section manager to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, London, said because of the heavy rain on Sunday, the men’s final was forced to stop.

“For the women Sheryl Edwards, Loretta Kotoisuva and Elizabeth Moceiwai were undefeated,” Smith said.

She said they had an overwhelming interest from bowlers wanting to play in the trips.

“This competition was the largest entry of 66 players we’ve had since the pandemic and there were many great upsets which can only mean good things of our bowlers,” she said.

“Geotech Drilling became our major sponsors for the weekend tournament and we are extremely grateful for their continuous support of the sport of Lawn Bowls.” She said the Suva Bowling Club had a full calendar ahead for 2022.

“We missed many games in 2020 and 2021 and instead of playing catch up, the games committee decided to play games set on the calendar moving forward.

“The main challenge faced was the heavy rain as it proves to be difficult to bowl in water soaked lawn grass.”

She added the national team selected during the weekend would be announced by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee.
