The multi-million dollar Blackrock Peacekeeping, Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Camp at Votualevu in Nadi is expected to be completed this month
This was confirmed by an official of the Australian High Commission to this newspaper.
“The Blackrock camp is expected to be completed in March 2022,” said the official.
He said the world-class facility would ensure the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) are well equipped to meet future peacekeeping and humanitarian needs.
“The Australian government is collaborating closely with the RFMF on major infrastructure projects at the Blackrock Camp, Stanley Brown Naval Base and the new Maritime Essential Services Centre,” he said.
The official said the construction of these major strategic assets would provide employment opportunities for Fijians and help boost the local economy.
In August last year, the assistant defence adviser for the Australian High Commission, Khan Beaumont, told this newspaper that as of June 21, 2021, $AU23 million ($F35 million) had gone towards the Blackrock development project.
The camp will include a medical facility, guardhouse, UN School, logistics precinct, gym, headquarters and living quarters.
