The impact of students getting exposed to pornography is evident in their grades, says Fiji Free from Porn founder Letitia Shelton.
She said that according to brain surgeons, watching pornography killed the brain cells.
“I spoke at a Fiji school a couple of years ago on pornography and when I turned up, the principal said ‘I know our students are watching porn because their grades are going down’,” she said.
“And that’s actually a statistic and I’ve talked to brain surgeons that porn actually kills brain cells and makes us a bit dumber, so it affects us and our grades go down. Maybe we think our kids are in their room doing their homework, but they’re watching pornography, and then it causes depression, it causes loneliness, it causes marriage break-up, it causes very early sexual encounters because they’re watching pornography and they want to act out what they see on a person.”
She said increased exposure to pornography to some extent contributed to the increasing rate of rape and crime in Fiji.
“I’ve spoken to men who work in your prison who interview the sex offenders and they say that 100 per cent of sex offenders have watched pornography.”
