Newly-elected young Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) president Peniasi Daveta aims to get many youths to vote in the upcoming 2022 General Election.
He said engaging more young people was pivotal.
“Despite the setbacks that SODELPA has been through in the last couple of months, in the last two years, what you have seen today (yesterday) actually shows that the support for SODELPA is still intact, particularly from the young people and this is what we want, we want to engage more young people,” he said.
“Just the fact that the Fiji Teachers Association hall is actually packed with young people is actually really promising and for us, it is a positive outlook for us, especially now as we get towards elections for 2022.
“I’m not going to take it lightly and so my plan is or what I’m going to share with young people, especially with the new executive council is to reach out to as many young people as possible, as wide, as far as possible, just so that we can get young people to get themselves registered and vote because we hold the power to decide who to become the next government given that the voting population of young people is more than 65 per cent.”
