Sam Lee carded a fine score of two under par 70 to take the early lead in the Vuksich & Borich Inaugural Fiji Professional Golfers Association (Fiji PGA) Championship at the Denarau Golf Club course in Nadi.

Lee, who has an official world golf ranking of 1692, is the hot favourite to take out the first prize purse of $2000.

He holds a one stroke lead from Zoheer Ahmed who carded 71.

Fiji PGA secretary Amitesh Chandra and Fiji PGA president Vikrant Chandra both carded even par 72.

Lautoka’s Roneel Prakash scored one over 73 in the first 18 holes. Vikrant said this was the first tournament of 2022 and a lucrative prize purse of $15,000 was on offer for the golfers.

“Sam is in hot form having won the 2021 Fiji PGA Order of Merit,” Vikrant said.

“We have set out a full calendar this season which is offering a total prize purse of around $100,000 for the professionals.”
