Energy Fiji Ltd chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel declined to comment when asked about concerns raised over the company being exempted from being audited by the Office of the Auditor General as of this year.

During a press conference at the 4th National Climate Outlook in Suva yesterday, this newspaper asked Mr Patel to comment on the move that was gazetted last week (Audit (Exemption) Regulations 2021).

“No comments, don’t ask me, ask the right people,” Mr Patel said in response.

National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad said the exemption “trashes accountability and transparency” because Government still owned 51 per cent of EFL shares.

This newspaper had sent questions to Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and the Auditor-General Ajay Nand. Both have not responded when this edition went to press last night.
