The players in the Fijian Drua squad will have to earn their spots to participate in the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific competition.
The Fijian Drua has already signed up 34 players with the possibility of signing up six more.
Fiji Rugby general manager high-performance Simon Raiwalui said they were in the early stages of bringing the team together and were not putting numbers on players for each position.
“Naca Cawanibuka is putting the team through a rigorous fitness regime at the moment,” Raiwalui said.
“So once we get into camp in Australia, Mick Byrne and the coaching team will access all the players. It will be an open competition between all players in all positions. So we are not limiting ourselves and we are not putting people on pedestal.
“Everyone will have to earn their spots and that is the way it is going to be with the Fijian Drua.”
The Fijian Drua will set up camp in Australia with players from Fiji and New Zealand joining the Australia-based players.
“We are now looking at between 37 to 40 players for the team,” Raiwalui said.
“The remaining players, we are identifying them. We are looking at certain players as well, they haven’t been signed yet but it has given us time once we get to Australia we can identify the players to fill those positions.”
