Lautoka Golf Club is marking its return to sports with a charity drive to help Fijian children who are suffering from cancer.

The club, one of the oldest in Fiji, will host its Diwali Cup 18 holes stroke event next month to kick-start its fundraising drive for WOWS Kids Fiji.

Tournament organiser Raymond Singh aims to raise $5000 before Christmas.

“This is a very worthy cause to support children with cancer,” Singh, a businessman and an ardent supporter of sports in the West, said.

“Last year I had the opportunity to meet many families with their children who are suffering from cancer.

It is a well known fact that life is too short and we should all make every effort to support the needy and the less  fortunate.”

With COVID-19 affecting lives and two months to Christmas, the club needs support from golfers and members of the public to be able to bring smiles on the faces of our children suffering from cancer.

“Despite a very difficult year for LGC, I am determined to raise the targeted amount. I am thankful and grateful to businessman and passionate golfer Ram Reddy for his generous contribution for a very successful 2020 WOWS Kids Fiji fundraiser and upcoming number of important events.

“Lautoka Golf Club is fortunate to have a host of dedicated sponsors supporting the club.

We also donated $5000 towards Government’s Cyclone Yasa Appeal and they were only possible through the support of our sponsors, members and well wishes.

All these came from our beloved tiny ninehole layout at the golf links course.”
