As Fiji celebrates its 51st anniversary of independence, we should reflect and think about our country, where it has been and where it is going.

This was National Federation Party (NFP) leader Professor Biman Prasad’s Fiji Day message, saying that “better days lie ahead if we achieve genuine national unity and shared vision”.

“For many of us right now, things are bleak as COVID-19 has devastated our lives and hundreds of loved family members have died,” he said.

“Tens of thousands have lost jobs and livelihood and are living with the help of family, friends and the many concerned and kind-hearted people in our community who have stepped up to help.”

Mr Prasad paid tribute to health frontliners and civil society groups and concerned humanitarians who stepped up to assist their fellow Fijians.

“All around us, we see the power of people working together, and this is how Fiji should be.

“We can be better with national unity, a shared vision which we all create and a sense of purpose to get it done.

“We must hold true to the spirit of unity and understanding of our independence because freedom, hope and glory is still ours if we grasp it.”
