Floating health care and volunteer charity vessel Sea Mercy was on hand to provide food packs for families in isolation in the Yasawa Group.

The vessel, which operates out of Nadi, delivered the food packs to 63 households in the Nacula district and 24 food packs to families in Dalomo Village.

Nacula district spokeswoman Lavenia Naivalu said they were truly grateful for the assistance provided to their families who were in isolation.

“A lot of them can’t leave their homes so they need food delivered to their doorstep, and that is what the team from Sea Mercy did,” she said.

“We are very thankful that there are these organisations that are willing to help us especially when we are not able to access these basic necessities.

“For our community, our people remain vigilant and like every other case, when a positive case is confirmed, everyone is isolated immediately.

“We have our protocols in place and we are working hard to contain this virus.”

According to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services update on October 1, the Nacula Medical area did not report any new cases within a 24-hour period.

“Of the 155 cases in the medical area, 30 have recovered and 125 remain active,” permanent secretary for health and medical services Dr James Fong said.

“The active cases are isolated in their respective villages and are monitored daily by the health teams from the respective medical areas.

“Movement restrictions remain in force for the islands.”
