Olympian and sensational Fiji 7s rep Jiuta Wainiqolo was tackled for life yesterday when he wed his sweetheart Fiona Weleilakeba in Navua.
The Fiji 7s try scoring machine celebrated with close family members and friends.
Known as the joker of the team, the 22-year-old Olympic Games gold medallist was all smiles during the duration of the ceremony.
Wainiqolo, who flies off to France to join his new club Toulon later this month, said it was a memorable day for him. “The last few months have been really tough,” he said.
“Away from families for nearly five months, it was really good to be back with them and today (yesterday) is a very big day which I’ll always remember.”
Football has a stronghold in Navua, but the joyous occasion was filled with Itaukei and Indian dances from those in attendance. A sign of Wainiqolo’s prominence in his area.
“I’ve had a lot of puri and sweets since I got home and I’m thankful for the lovely neighbours and friends I have in my community.
“I’ll be leaving for Suva to meet my family and friends before I leave for France,” he added.
Wainiqolo has signed a three-year contract with Toulon and will leave the country with his newly wedded wife later this month to join the French T14 club.
