MARO TT Gang 2, Cuvu sector sardar Narendra Kumar is asking the Fiji Sugar Cooperation (FSC) to send in rail carts on time to their farms.
“I think we are the only gang from Cuvu sector that depends only on railway system to cart our cane and on days our cane-cutters wait from 12pm to sometimes 4pm and then go back home due to late delivery of rail carts,” the Sigatoka resident said.
Mr Kumar said this issue reduced the productivity of labourers on the farm.
“If the rail cart is delivered as early as 10am or even a day before, then we can harvest early and go back to our homes and do some other work.”
Another gang member, Hirdesh Narayan, said recently they received four rail carts at around 2pm and they could send in only three rail carts as one was damaged and required welding.
“Our own money goes when rail carts are not in proper condition and we request FSC to look into our issues.”
Questions sent to Fiji Sugar Cooperation CEO Bhan Pratap Singh remain unanswered when this edition went to press.
