Only 14 trucks loaded with cane queued outside the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) mill in Labasa this morning as Vanua Levu begins this year’s crushing season.
More than 1000 farmers have also signed a petition pleading with Government to review this year’s forecast cane price of $54.36 per tonne.
The petition addressed to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, also explains how farmers would make a loss with this forecast price.
Ministry of Sugar’s permanent secretary Yogesh Karan said he would.comment on this issue later.
