A group of Koroboya villagers in Ba were up as early as 5am last Saturday to travel to the Lautoka Municipal Market.
Makarita Waqali said they were happy to be back to sell at the city’s main market.
“We were selling at the Ba market and did not earn enough,” she said. “Lautoka is the main market we come to every weekend.
“When the border closed, we knew it was going to be a big challenge to take care of our families.
“I’m praying that it stays open so we can come back.” Another villager, Iosefo Rokomatu, said their produce were all sold by midday.
“When we were selling at the Ba market most of the time, we would return home with our root crops,” he said.
“Today, by midday, all the cassava was sold. “What we sold in Ba would go for half price because we had to sell it.
“A lot of us are very happy to be back. We have money to take back home.”
