A Narere family of 10 under lockdown for the past 21 days claim they have been forced to survive on a single ration pack.

On top of having to sustain the household on scant supplies for the third week going, one of the residents, Margaret Turaga, said she also had to suffer the pain of being separated from her four-year-old son.

The Muanikoso resident said the pack they received comprised a 4kg bag of rice, a 4kg bag of flour, 1kg dhal, a small bottle of oil, four tinned fish in tomato sauce and a packet of tea.

She said that because of the lockdown, they could not catch fish or prawns from a nearby river to help supplement their meagre supplies.

“We don’t have kerosene to cook and we can’t get firewood either, there is a checkpoint down there near the river,” Ms Turaga said.
