Minister for Forestry Osea Naiqamu has resigned from Cabinet on medical grounds. A statement on Government’s social media page said Mr Naiqamu’s resignation came into effect yesterday.

“Hon. Naiqamu has taken this decision to focus on his health, for which he recently sought treatment, while continuing to contribute to the nation as a Member of Parliament,” the statement read.

The statement added Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama would now oversee the functions of the Ministry of Forestry until further notice.

Mr Naiqamu served as a member of the Cabinet from 2014 as the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry and as the Minister for Forestry in 2016.

Following his re-election to Parliament in 2018, he was appointed as Minister for Forestry.
