Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services yesterday administered 12,572 first doses and 134 second doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

This totals 12,706 vaccinations administered across Viti Levu, a record for one day.

Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong acknowledged and congratulated all Fijians who had braved the rain to get vaccinated and the vaccination teams that made it possible.

“Cumulatively, we have now vaccinated 148,522 individuals with their first dose of the vaccine,” Dr Fong said in this afternoon’s update.

“This is 28 per cent of the target population, which is people aged 18 and older in Fiji. (A total of) 4251 individuals, which is 3 per cent of the target population, have received their second dose and are considered fully vaccinated.”

Dr Fong says priority has been in Viti Levu because that is where the current outbreak is centered.

Breakdown by division:

  • Western Division: 32 per cent first dose / 6 per cent second dose
  • Central Division: 32 per cent / 0.66 per cent second dose
  • Northern Division: 12 per cent first dose / 1 per cent second dose
  • Eastern Division: 10 per cent first dose / no second doses
