THE Fiji Cancer Society (FCS) states it plans to conduct 40 community screenings across the country, four public awareness and screenings, 10 corporate screening and awareness and host three open days at different locations this year.

Speaking at the Bushells Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea, hosted by the Motibhai Group yesterday, society president Makrava Wilson said it was their vision to achieve a cancer-free Fiji and fundraising events assisted greatly in helping to work towards the goal.

“The society assists patients with medications when they are not under the Government free medical list, transportation to come in for clinics and drops-offs, visa and passport fees and boat transfers,” he said.

“We also conduct home visits for patients being cared for at home, survivorship programs and work closely with clinical teams to see how the society can assist hospitals.

“We have been able to purchase diagnostic equipment and even finance surgeries.” Mr Wilson said they had conducted 14 community outreach programs in the first quarter of this year.
