THE Moala Vonokula 7s team is ready to fulfil its dream of playing in their first Marist 7s tournament and showcase their island flair.

The team comprises islanders from Moala Island, coach John Likusuasua said it was a move to bring the talents from the islands to the centre stage.

“We see stories of how teams, from Yasawa and Taveuni bring their teams to big competitions to showcase their talents, it is high time Moala did as well,” Likusuasua said.

“There is so much untapped talent on the islands and to bring them to these tournaments is a chance to get them spotted and who knows, we might have a some future stars in our ranks.”

Likusuasua said the team funded their campaign themselves through yaqona planting and support from their fans.

“We are yaqona farmers and each player contributed in their own way which showed the determination of coming to play.”

As many as 19 players from the villages of Naroi, Vunuku, Nuku and Vadra make up the team. Likusuasua said they were excited and planned on making the trip every year.

“Our boys are already excited with the games ahead, and ready to showcase the hidden talents and skills from Moala. We thank all supporters that have been helping us on the way and look forward to a good outing.”
