Swami Vivekananda College claimed both the boys and girls’ overall titles during the Coca-Cola Nadi Zone meet at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.
SVC took out a total of 42 medals in the boys division with 22 gold, 11 silver and nine bronze medals.
Ratu Navula was second with 10 gold, 12 silver and nine bronze medals.
Nadi Sangam College finished third with seven gold, four silver and 13 bronze medals. In the girls category, SVC collected 21 gold, 18 silver and nine bronze medals.
Nasesevia Secondary School was second with seven gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals while Nadi Muslim College finished third with six gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
SVC head coach Deepak Narayan said they were really proud with the achievements of their athletes.
Narayan said the athletes sacrificed a lot together with the school heads, teachers and parents to achieve this result.
“First we will have to check the times of the athletes and then match it with the results of the 2019 Coca-Cola Games to see where we stand,” Narayan said.
“This will give us a fair indication of how many athletes to take to Suva for the national event.
“I believe that this is the first time that we have lifted the overall title in both categories.”
Nasesevia Secondary School, which is situated on the border of Nadi and Nadroga, proved to be the surprise package in the two-day event.
Narayan said Nasesevia Secondary School being a small school gave them a tough time especially in the long distance races.
The Tavua/Ra, Ba and Lautoka zone competitions will be held next week.
