MUNICIPAL market vendors will need to pay for annual licences if proposals under the draft Local Government (Municipal Market) Regulations 2020 are accepted.
The draft law which has been distributed to all market vendors associations in Fiji — seeking their views — proposes $1000 for a single stall fee while yaqona sellers would be levied $2000 in annual stall fees.
In addition, the document states the council would be able to cancel a licence at any time without cause.
The licence fee stipulated in the proposed legislation states anyone wishing to sell anything apart from fish, poultry and yaqona from one stall inside the market will need to pay $1000.
The amount will increase by another $1000 if a vendor needed additional stalls.
A charge of $500 would apply if anyone wanted to sell anything else apart from fish, poultry and yaqona from one stall outside the market.
“Licence to sell fish is $1500,” the proposed legislation read.
“Licence to sell cooked food from one stall inside market $500. “Licence to sell cooked food from one stall outside the market $250.
“A licence may not permit a licence holder to sell more than one type of goods and services under the licence.”
The proposed law states the licence would be valid for one year for the period commencing January 1 and ending December 31.
