PUBLIC transport providers have praised the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) for working tirelessly to fix damaged and affected roads across the country.

Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) and the Fiji Taxi Association (FTA) have lauded the speed at which the FRA was working to repair roads.

FBOA president Nisar Ali said it was understood that the repairs could not be done overnight.

“The FRA is working tirelessly to fix the roads,” said Mr Ali.

“In this bad weather, many roads are damaged and are washed away. This cannot be repaired overnight.”

Mr Ali said some of the roads for which their buses provided services were badly damaged and the FRA was working to give access to transport.

“At some of the affected places, they have done by-passes so that the buses and other modes of transport can go and provide services to the people, especially in Labasa and Vanua Levu areas.”

Mr Ali said they had let the bus operators decide how far they could go to provide services in affected areas.

“We have literally left the owners of the buses to decide on that.

“We have also told them not to damage their buses and to consider the safety of their passengers and students.”

Mr Ali said passengers had to understand that because of the recent situation, some buses would not be able to reach destinations on time.

“People should understand that in this situation, the buses might not reach the destination on time but at least the service is provided.”

Meanwhile, FTA president Raben Singh said the FRA had assured them they were working tirelessly to fix roads.
