HELP is on the way for some people who are facing difficulties as the result of the recent tropical cyclones.
Thanks to the brains behind Nadroga Rugby Union and Hawka Foundation, its partner, that some families on Vanua Levu would be assisted soon.
The union conducted two fundraising events under its ‘Rise with the Dreus’ cyclone appeal to help the families of their players who are from Vanua Levu.
The appeal was conducted during the Nadi 10s at Prince Charles Park a fortnight ago and the Nadroga 10s at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka last weekend.
“We are happy with the success of the appeal,” union’s games co-ordinator Talica Dakia said.
“We confirm that we have secured the next part of our program and that we are travelling to Vanua Levu on February 26 to distribute what we have collected. We collected enough to take to the families of our players in Vanua Levu who were affected by the cyclones.”
The appeal included entertainments by some of Nadroga-Navosa’s top musical groups and singers such as the “Nadroga Queen” Ofa Ali.
“Donations came in the form of cash, stationery, water filters, bottled water, clothes, beddings and food.
“We thank everyone who donated and the gesture showed the true Fijian spirit of caring for one another,” foundation founder Selina Donu said.
Nadroga rugby had players from Vanua Levu such as the late Isaia Rasila, former national rep and coach Ifereimi Tawake, and Setefano Samoca.
“Some of these players have maternal links to Nadroga and some came to us looking for help to enhance their rugby skills. Some even made it right to the Flying Fijians and some now are playing overseas.
“We are helping their families in this appeal as a way of thanking them for helping Nadroga in rugby,” Donu said.
