Overloaded vehicles have been restricted from crossing the bridge over Tabia/Naduri Rd in Macuata.
This according to Fiji Roads Authority, adding vehicles weighing less than 10 tonnes would be allowed to cross the Laqere bridge in Tabia.
“The Laqere bridge is located along the Tabia Naduri Coastal Road, which is now the alternative route to Labasa from Nabouwalu and Savusavu,” FRA said.
“FRA is concerned that if the Laqere bridge collapses due to excess weight of vehicles, access to Labasa Town will be totally cut off.
“The heavy rain currently experienced across Vanua Levu has caused the road surface to soften, causing heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks to get stuck in the mud.”
FRA has advised drivers to make wise decisions while driving on the roads in the unfavourable weather conditions.
