The bodies of Sesha Reddy and Mirdu Chandra will remain at the Lautoka Hospital until a post-mortem examination is conducted.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the couple had been dead for a while before their bodies were discovered early on Tuesday morning.
“At the moment, we won’t be able to comment on what caused their deaths until a post-mortem has been carried out, but I can confirm that they had been deceased for a few days,” she said.
When queried if there were signs of a break in or an alleged double murder, Ms Naisoro reiterated that more would be determined once the bodies were examined.
Meanwhile, a close family friend, Abhinesh Singh, claimed that the couple’s three-bedroom house had numerous break-ins over the past three years.
“Usually, when someone broke into their home, they were away overseas and there would be security cameras that captured the thieves,” Mr Singh alleged.
“But the problem was they were wearing masks.”
He claimed Mr Reddy owned several acres of freehold land which he had been selling over the past year.
