TC Yasa now a category 5 system

Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa is now a category 5 system and was located about 550km Northwest of Nadi at 3am today.

STC Yasa is currently slow moving, said the Fiji Meteorological Service.

A tropical cyclone alert remains in force for Rotuma, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, the northern half of Viti Levu in an area from Nadi through to Tavua, Rakiraki, Korovou, and Lomaiviti group.

A tropical cyclone alert is also in force for the northern half of Vanua Levu in an area from Nabouwalu through to Labasa and Udu Point.

A flash flood warning remains in force for the low-lying areas and areas adjacent to small streams and Dreketilailai river to Qawa station on Vanua Levu.

A flood alert remains in force for the low-lying areas and areas adjacent to small streams for the interior of the main island, upper Nadarivatu, Monasavu, upper Wainimala, upper Sigatoka, and upper Nadi catchment.
