Youths can bring about positive social changes, Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Kumar said while opening a two day youth leaders’ workshop in Lautoka yesterday.
He urged the 60 participants to become role models in their community.
“My ministry strongly believes to prepare our young leaders to understand there are opportunities to grow in different areas of life,” he said.
“We at the ministry have a strong belief that youths can bring about positive social changes.
“Youth leadership aims to prepare you, the young leaders to understand your role to develop and become role models.”
He said the impacts of COVID- 19 allowed his ministry to start a youth farming program.
“With the pandemic affecting food security, it is vital to maintain local food supply to ensure everyone has access to basic food items.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports designed the youth farming program in trying to help those who are out of work at the moment.
The youth groups commit to utilise the land and grants them food security.”
