Fijian national and former Deputy Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Christelle Pratt has been appointed the Assistant Secretary-General for Environment and Climate Action to the Organisation of the African Caribbean and Pacific (OACP) Secretariat based in Brussels.

Fiji’s Ambassador to the European Union based in Brussels Deo Saran congratulated Ms Pratt on her appointment saying Fiji and the Pacific were proud that this newly-established position was given to a Fiji national given the impact that the Pacific region faced from climate change.

In late 2019, leaders from the OACP States approved the establishment of the position of Assistant Secretary-General for the Department of Environment and Climate Action, which was followed by OACP States submitting their nominations for the position as required.

Ms Pratt was Fiji’s nomination.

In congratulating Ms Pratt, Mr Saran said it was a proud moment to see a Fijian serving at the highest level in OACP Secretariat.

He said Ms Pratt’s years of experience would bring value to the organisation, and put the issue of environment and climate at the top of the multilateral global agenda.
