A Codie Taylor brace powered Canterbury to a 43-29 win over North Harbour in the Mitre 10 Cup opener in Auckland on Friday night.

The All Blacks’ rake even resembled a wing for his second, when he gobbled up a Richie Mo’unga cross-field kick to help his side ease clear down the stretch.

Canterbury needed a dominant second half to put the hosts away, having trailed 22-21 at halftime after finding themselves on the wrong side of referee Paul Williams’ whistle.

However, they had the luxury of injecting Mo’unga into the match for the final half hour, as they put their foot down and nabbed a bonus-point.

Three years after last playing for Canterbury, Mo’unga notched his 50th match for the red and blacks when he replaced Brett Cameron.
