A second earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale was reported in the Ono-i-Lau region today by the Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources Department.
The earthquake occurred at 8.56am.
The department stated that the seismic activity was located 29km South-southeast from Doi Village, Ono-i-Lau, 354km Southeast from Nuku’alofa, Tonga, 396km Southeast from Vunisea, Kadavu, and 436km Southeast from Suva.
The department stated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 605km and it did not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.
Earlier today, the department had reported a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in the same region.
It occurred at 2.49am.
The seismic activity was located 636km South-southeast from Doi Village, Ono-i-Lau, 929km Southeast from Vunisea, Kadavu, and 1002 Southeast from Suva.
