The Social Democratic Liberal Party  (SODELPA) is now in a constitutional crisis.

Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem highlighted this in a letter dated July 6, 2020 and titled ‘SODELPA Casual Appointments’  saying the casual vacancies of the President and Vice Presidents has lapsed.

Mr Saneem said in analyzing the lifting of the suspension, he noted from the SODELPA Constitution that the Party’s Annual General Meeting was to be held no later than June 30 every year.

“SODELPA is now in a constitutional crisis and it is advisable that the Party now finds a solution to resolve the matter.

“The Registrar of Political Parties is an independent office and leaves it to SODELPA to handle this matter appropriately.”
