COVID-19: 30 arrested for breaching curfew restrictions

Thirty people were arrested last night for breaching curfew restrictions including two juveniles.

The Southern Division recorded majority of the cases, with nineteen reports, followed by the West and Eastern Divisions with five cases each while the Northern Division recorded one report.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said in the Southern Division, two juveniles aged 13 and 17 years were arrested along the Kings Road near Muanikoso and were found setting up cones along the road.

He said two others were arrested in the Nasinu area while the remaining arrests in the South were made in Valelevu, Lami, Raiwaqa and Vatuwaqa.

“Of the 19 arrests, 10 involved those who were intoxicated at the time of arrest,” Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

In the Western Division, five arrests were made in Sigatoka, Rakiraki and Lautoka whereby three cases involved those found drunk.

In the Eastern Division, all five cases were of those found drunk during time of arrest in Korovou and Nausori Town.

The lone case in the Northern Division involved an 18-year-old student who was found walking around in the Labasa area during curfew hours.
