Raman Pratap Singh was a pillar of strength for the National Federation Party (NFP).

NFP leader Prof Biman Prasad said Mr Singh led the party as president “during the dark, uncertain and difficult times in the aftermath of the December, 2006 coup.

“Raman Pratap Singh was a man of innate decency and goodwill,” he said.

“His kindness and generosity was limitless. But his gentleness belied his firmness and decisiveness when defending democracy, fundamental rights and human dignity”.

Prof Prasad said Mr Singh was one of the few people who helped keep the party alive.

“His contribution to the sugar industry was also significant.

“As a lawyer he helped former NFP leader Siddiq Koya in drafting the Sugar Industry Act before becoming one of the two vice-chairmen of the Sugar Cane Growers Council after the 1985 SCGC elections.

“Raman Pratap Singh will be very sadly missed by his family, friends and NFP members.”
