More than 500 food packs were distributed to first responders from Lautoka to Sigatoka by members of the Lautoka Cane Producers Association on Friday, May 01, 2020.

The group visited nurses and doctors at the Nadi Hospital yesterday as they carried out their distribution at medical centres and police stations.

Association president Tazim Ali Khan said the food packs were a token of appreciation for the work that the first responders had been engaged in over the past few months.

“The association mainly assists farmers but this time around we wanted to do something for our first responders who have been at the frontline of our fight against COVID-19,” he said.

“This is the time that we have to show our appreciation to our nurses, doctors, and police officers who are also doing a lot to make sure that we are safe. A lot of them are leaving their families behind and spending hours at work. Some of them are not sleeping well. Some of them are not eating well too. So as an association, we wanted to come and give out food packs for our nurses, doctors, and police officers.

“Fiji has done really well in our fight and that is mainly because of the work and sacrifice that our first responders have done.

“They have been risking their lives over the past few weeks and they did a marvelous job by making sure that the virus did not spread.”
